The 2008 HOT Interconnects (HOTI ’08) Symposium invites experts to present tutorials as part of the Symposium’s Tutorial Program. The Symposium will be held at Stanford University, August 27-28, 2008. The tutorial day is Tuesday, August 26, 2008, 3-7 pm and will be held at the same venue. The tutorial aims at providing a short course on a topic of interest, typically at an introductory or overview level.

Hot Interconnects is the premier international forum for researchers and developers of state-of-the-art hardware and software architectures and implementations for interconnection networks of all scales, ranging from on-chip processor--memory interconnects to wide-area networks. This yearly conference is very well attended by leaders in industry and academia. The atmosphere provides for a wealth of opportunities to interact with individuals at the forefront of this field.

Call for Tutorials
We seek half-day tutorial proposals in thematic areas such as:
Optical Networks & Architectures
High Speed Interconnects
Network Virtualization
Networks and Architectures for Financial Applications
Storage Networks, Fibre Channel, Fibre Channel over Ethernet, iSCSI
Infiniband
Grid Computing
High Performance Computing
Switch Architectures for Wireless/Mobile Networks
Interconnects Architectures
Network Security
Traffic Engineering
Broadband Technologies
   
If you would like to submit a tutorial proposal for a technical subject not included in the list above please submit a proposal for your suggested topic and indicate how your tutorial relates to the symposium and would benefit potential tutorial attendees. It is imperative that the level of a tutorial matches the attendees’ expectations. The proposed tutorial should fit the time allotted.

Submission Format
The tutorial proposal should include:
a. Title
b. Proposer(s) name(s), affiliation and contact information (email, address, telephone/fax numbers)
c. Short biography and list of publications of the proposer(s)
d. Contents outline (limited to 1 page maximum)
e. Description (limited to 2 pages maximum)
f. Tutorial format: short course presentation, lab presentation, etc. Indicate your requirements in terms of hardware equipment and software tools, if any.
g. Teaching experience. Optionally set of slides (in PDF format) of previously given tutorial on the same subject.
Tutorial presenters may want to indicate a backup arrangement in the event they cannot present the tutorial themselves.

POLICIES
Compensation Policy: The compensation/remuneration per tutorial is US $ 700. The compensation is per tutorial, thus multiple presenters will share the compensation. Tutorial presenters will also receive free conference registration for the HOTI ’08 Symposium. Presenters will not be paid, in full or partially, for cancelled tutorials. Although presenters will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements, they might be considered for receiving travel financial assistance, if determined by the HOTI ’08 committee.

Cancellation Policy: HOTI ’08 committee reserves the right to cancel a tutorial should there be inadequate attendance, for instance, less than 5 persons registered for the tutorial, as of the cancellation date listed below. The HOTI ’08 committee reserves also the right to cancel the tutorial for any other reason, by the cancellation date, although every effort will be taken to notify the speaker prior to that date should that be warranted.

The Symposium will provide the necessary audio-visual equipment for delivering the tutorials. Accepted tutorial speakers will be requested to provide their tutorial material to be printed and distributed to the registered tutorial attendees, according to the dates below.

IMPORTANT DATES
Submission deadline:
July 6, 2008

Tutorial material due: July 25, 2008
Cancellation date: August 16, 2008
Tutorial date: August 26, 2008, 3 pm – 7 pm

Note that the submission and notification process will be ongoing: tutorial speaker positions may be filled (and thus presenters notified) as soon as proposals are received and evaluation is successful. Therefore, tutorial submissions are strongly encouraged prior to the submission date.
